Jhapa tea plantation workers deprived of minimum wage

Baniyani, Jhapa –Tea estate workers in Jhapa have been deprived of the minimum pay set by the government. They warned of a protest if their demand for minimum wage is not met. 


The government has increased a minimum daily wage of the workers to Rs 385 each from Rs 278. 
"We have been deprived of the pay determined by the government. It is our right to receive it," said Dipak Tamang, Chairperson of the Nepal Tea Farm Workers Union. 


Bhupal Sapkota, in-charge of All Nepal Tea Workers Union in Province 1, said their plea to the employers for the determined wage has been ignored so far.
