Flood and Landslide Protection Plan Developed for Lamakhet

Myagdi. A plan has been developed to protect settlements from floods and landslides in Lamakhet, the center of Jaljala Rural Municipality of Parbat, adjacent to the district headquarters Beni Bazaar.

The plan has been prepared by the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Office, Pokhara, to save the Jaljala Rural Municipality office, settlements, and public property located in Lamakhet from floods and erosion in the Kaligandaki River.

An estimate of Rs 48,310,568 has been made for the construction of a 129-meter-long 'composite' technology wall in Armadi, Kushma Municipality-4, and Lamakhet, Jaljala Rural Municipality, and a contract has been called for, informed Engineer Narjang Gurung of the project office. According to him, Nakul-BRT-Shai JV contracted for Rs 29,634,837 in Asar 2082 BS.

Engineer Gurung said that the 'composite' technology wall has been constructed with a four-meter-wide, three-meter-high concrete base and gabion on top. According to him, six multi-year river control and settlement protection projects are under construction in Myagdi, Parbat, and Mustang through the office for the protection of markets and settlements at risk due to erosion of the Beni, Myagdi, and Kaligandaki rivers.
