Former PM Sushila Karki Advises Against Destroying Opposition Parties

Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that opposition parties should not be destroyed just because they have come into power.

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Friday, she clarified that one should not think of completely annihilating the other side just because they have come to power.

Former Prime Minister Karki has advised current Prime Minister Balendra Shah and leaders of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to move forward by looking at the history. She said that the newly elected youths who have just come to power should run the country only by considering the old matters and history. She said that the young leaders of the ruling party should remember that they will not always remain young.

Referring to the political change, she said, 'Most of those in the previous government lost. A new party was established. Youth came. Looking at the parliament now, most of the MPs have reached the generation of our children and grandchildren. When the new generation asks for an opportunity and the public votes for them, everyone must respect them and let them work.'

She reminded that the 35/37-year-old Prime Minister and leaders who have come to power will also have to return to their old state one day. Giving examples that KP Sharma Oli, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' were also young in their time's movements, she said that experience is something that is learned gradually. She said, 'One should not try to completely annihilate the other side just because they have come to power.'

Similarly, Karki has urged the opposition parties to give up the tendency of pulling the government's leg. Although competition between political parties and pointing out each other's flaws is normal, she believes that the opposition should provide guidance in a decent language. She clarified that the force sent by the public with their votes should not be pulled down and destroyed.

Giving an example of how her non-political interim government completed its mission successfully, she said that she has never underestimated the political parties because they are the ones who run the country. She believes that criticism and competition among parties will lead the country in the right direction. At the same program, she also praised the Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari for playing an important role in conducting the elections.
