Embassy Urges Nepalis in Cambodia to Return Home Within a Week

Kathmandu. The Nepali Embassy in Bangkok has requested all Nepali citizens who have overstayed their visa and are staying illegally in Cambodia to return to Nepal mandatorily within one week.

The Embassy had been collecting details since May 1, 2026, with the objective of waiving the fines and fees payable to the Cambodian government for Nepalis who reached Cambodia through various means and are residing there after their visa expired.

According to the Embassy, a one-way travel document has been prepared and sent to Cambodia for all Nepali citizens who have lost their passports, based on the details collected so far. At the special request of the Embassy, the Cambodian government has waived the fines and fees applicable after the expiry of the visa period for a total of 602 Nepali citizens in eight installments.

Under the new legal provisions recently implemented by the Cambodian government, foreign nationals who do not return to their country within the stipulated one-week period will be arrested, subjected to strict action, fined, and even sentenced to imprisonment. Therefore, the Embassy has urged all concerned Nepali citizens to take this notice seriously and return to Nepal as soon as possible.

Individuals for whom the fines and fees have been waived by the Cambodian government are required to inform the Cambodian Immigration Department in advance once they have arranged their air tickets, and therefore, they have been requested to send their ticket details to the email addresses and contact numbers specified by the Embassy.

Since there are no direct flights from Cambodia to Nepal, the Embassy has also cautioned that individuals should confirm whether their ticket is for a connecting flight or not before purchasing it.

Similarly, the Embassy has clarified that anyone demanding any amount in the name of fees or fines from individuals whose immigration fines and fees have been waived will be prosecuted for fraud.
