Nationwide Weather Forecast: Rain, Thunderstorms Expected in Most Cities

Kathmandu.  Today, the weather across the country is expected to change, with rain accompanied by thunderstorms predicted in most cities. According to the latest report from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rainfall will occur in most major cities this afternoon.  

Specifically, Dadeldhura, Pokhara, and Jomsom have the highest probability of rain in the afternoon, at 70 percent. The probability of rain in many other cities across the country is 60 percent.

Looking at the afternoon temperatures, the Terai districts will experience more heat. The maximum temperature in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj is estimated to reach between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in Dipayal and Bhairahawa will be between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius.  

On the other hand, cities in the mountainous and hilly regions like Jomsom, Jiri, and Jumla will have relatively cooler weather. Today, the maximum temperature in Jomsom is forecasted to be only 17 to 19 degrees Celsius.

In the federal capital Kathmandu and the tourist city Pokhara, moderate rain with thunderstorms is also expected this afternoon. The maximum temperature in Kathmandu will be between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, with a 60 percent chance of rain.

 Similarly, the maximum temperature in Pokhara will be between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. At night, both cities will experience light and moderate rain with thunderstorms, respectively.

The weather tonight will clear up somewhat compared to the afternoon. While there is a possibility of light rain with thunderstorms in most cities, some cities will not receive rain. The probability of rain at night in Simara, Biratnagar, Dharan, and Janakpur is zero percent. These cities will only have partial cloud cover at night.  

At night, the lowest temperatures will drop between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius in Jumla and Jomsom.
