Nepal Celebrates 19th Republic Day

Kathmandu. Today, the 19th Republic Day is being celebrated with grandeur across the country in remembrance of the historic day when absolute monarchy was ended in Nepal and Federal Democratic Republic was declared.

On the historic day of Jestha 15, 2065 BS, the first Constituent Assembly meeting, based on the peaceful people's movement of the then seven political parties and the armed struggle of the CPN (Maoist), bid farewell to the 240-year-old Shah dynasty monarchy and declared Nepal as a Federal Democratic Republic. In honor of the same historic day when citizen supremacy was established, Jestha 15 is celebrated every year as Republic Day.

The Republic Day Main Celebration Committee has organized a special ceremony today at the Sainik Manch Tundikhel. The ceremony will be attended by high-ranking dignitaries including President Ram Chandra Paudel, Vice President, Prime Minister, Speaker, and Chairman of the National Assembly. On the occasion, a march past and various cultural tableaux will be presented by the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force.

On the occasion of the day, tributes are being paid to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of democracy, and the contributions of the pioneers who struggled, sacrificed, and shed blood are being remembered. Republic is not just a political system, but also an advanced system of governance and lifestyle. It has ensured citizens' rights to education, health, social security, and proportional inclusion.

As the Republic completes 18 years and enters its 19th year, citizens' expectations have further increased. Political analysts believe that after achieving political rights, the main responsibility of the republic is now to bring economic prosperity, good governance, and improvement in the living standards of citizens. It is the need of the hour to make the common citizens truly feel the republic through increased production, promotion of employment, and a corruption-free administration.
