Gagan Thapa Emphasizes Republic Day for Nepal's Transformation

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has stated that Nepal can be transformed into a civilized, developed, happy, and prosperous nation only through the protection of the Nepali constitution and the institutional strengthening of the federal democratic republican governance system. 

Issuing a congratulatory message on the occasion of Republic Day, he said, "As a result of the unprecedented sacrifice, struggle, and martyrdom of the Nepali people, the Constituent Assembly election was completed under the leadership of the then Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala's government following the success of the historic People's Movement 2062-63. Subsequently, on Jestha 15, 2065 BS, the monarchy was abolished by declaring Nepal a Federal Democratic Republic from the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly. It is in remembrance of this historic achievement that we have been celebrating Jestha 15 every year with pride as Republic Day. Nepal can be transformed into a civilized, developed, happy, and prosperous nation only through the protection of the Nepali constitution and the institutional strengthening of the federal democratic republican governance system."

"It is the need of the hour for everyone to play a responsible role from their respective positions to protect and strengthen this historic achievement obtained through the sacrifice, martyrdom, and dedication of the Nepali people," he mentioned.

"I believe that this Republic Day will provide new enthusiasm and inspiration to all Nepalis in the common journey of building a just and egalitarian society based on democratic values, norms, culture, and traditions, while advancing the country towards economic prosperity," he said in the message.
