Indian Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh Reveals Hair Loss Due to Bipolar Disorder Treatment

Mumbai. Indian singer and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has made a surprising revelation about his health and personal life. In a podcast interview, he stated that due to bipolar disorder and the side effects of strong medication, all the hair on his head fell out, leaving him bald, and he now uses a fake wig. He recalled being confined indoors for seven years during that difficult time of mental stress and illness, and for three of those years, he did not even leave his bedroom. He has now recovered from this illness and has made a comeback in the music industry.

Hirdesh Singh, also known as Yo Yo Honey Singh, 43, who was born in Delhi, recently participated in the 'ABBTX' podcast. During the conversation, he spoke openly about his illness and the effects of its treatment. Honey Singh mentioned that his weight had reached up to 105 kg due to prolonged use of strong medication in large quantities. He admitted that the side effects of that treatment caused complete hair loss from his head. He clarified that the hair visible on his head now is not real and that he wears a wig. He stated that even though he quit drug addiction in 2014, the journey to recovery was very long and arduous.

Recalling the difficult times of 2018 and 2019, Honey Singh shared that he always felt dead and trapped somewhere between heaven and hell. He felt that even when his mother gave him food, it was his last meal. For the past seven years, he had been taking the same medication, and his health had not improved. He then decided to go out of the house and change doctors. Only after the new doctor adjusted the medication dosage and started some new medicines did his condition improve in four weeks, and he started meeting people.

According to Honey Singh, the illness began when he was at the peak of his career. He was doing a music reality show in Mumbai and was on a US tour with actor Shah Rukh Khan. While in Chicago, he first experienced problems like fear of death and hallucinations. Due to fear, he shaved half of his head, which led the makers to advise him to wear a cap. When Shah Rukh Khan called, he said he would meet him directly on stage, but the fear was so intense that he left the show midway after singing two songs.

After returning from the US tour, Honey Singh remained confined to his house for about seven years. He did not want his fans to see him in that condition. He stopped meeting friends and talking on the phone, and also stayed away from TV and the internet. Due to the fear of bipolar disorder and negative thoughts, he could not leave his bedroom for three years. The fear was so extreme that he would keep the bathroom door open even while bathing.

Honey Singh, who dominated the Indian pop music industry in the 2010s, has now fully recovered and made a comeback. Two years ago, in 2024, he presented the story of these struggling days in his documentary 'Famous', released on Netflix.

He is now successfully re-establishing his identity in the music charts and fans' hearts with songs like 'Makhna' and 'Miliyan' and music albums like 'Honey 3.0' and 'Glory'.
