Communist Party Leader Agni Prasad Sapkota Calls Upcoming Local Elections a Crucial Test

Kathmandu. Nepali Communist Party leader and local level department chief Agni Prasad Sapkota has stated that the upcoming local level elections in 2084 BS will be a crucial test for the party. Presenting a 'brief proposal' at the National Training Assembly of Local Level Representatives organized by the party at Pragya Bhawan, Kamladi on Wednesday, Sapkota said the upcoming election is a crucial test of ideological-political struggle.

Sapkota, a former speaker, claimed that the authority of Singha Durbar has reached villages due to the party's main stance and revolutionary pressure. He instructed to work in a way that leaves a positive impression in the minds of the people for the next one year.

'Among the 753 local levels across the country, 144 led by our party have done some exemplary work. The next one year should be a year of resolving to leave a positive impression in the minds of the people and complete unfinished plans,' he said.

In the program, Sapkota presented the federalism of Switzerland and the development model of China as references. He emphasized the need to make local levels centers of production and employment. Similarly, he argued that socialism can be sown in Nepal by learning from Switzerland's financial autonomy and China's successful experiment in poverty alleviation.

Clarifying the fundamental difference between his party and other political parties, Sapkota said, 'Our representatives are not rulers, but servants of the people and agents of transformation. The local level is an ideological front for us to fight against the comprador capitalist culture.'

Hinting at the 'populism' and youth dissatisfaction seen in Nepali politics recently, Sapkota described it as a serious challenge. Referring to the Gen Z movement last August, he said, 'We must answer the legitimate questions raised by the youth through our actions. The new generation's information technology and new thinking must be integrated into local level planning.'

He emphasized the need to document and nationalize the good practices such as improving government schools, free health insurance, and providing justice at the doorstep through judicial committees in the local levels led by the party.

He called on the representatives to listen to the people, research local resources, and reach out to communities with a clear vision to achieve qualitative success in the upcoming elections. The assembly, which will continue until tomorrow, is attended by mayors, deputy mayors, and representatives elected from the party across the country.
