MP Anushka Shrestha Draws Attention to Speeding Heavy Vehicles Endangering Public

Kathmandu. National Independent Party MP Anushka Shrestha has drawn the government's attention through parliament, stating that the high speed of heavily loaded vehicles plying on the roads puts the lives of ordinary people at risk.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, MP Shrestha discussed road safety challenges, citing an accident on the Karyavinayak-Nakhu road section in Lalitpur as an example.

MP Shrestha mentioned the increasing tendency of vehicles to travel at speeds many times higher than the prescribed speed limit. She stated that the risk of accidents is high due to the dilapidated condition of such vehicles, worn-out tires, and brakes that do not function properly.

She claimed that this problem is particularly evident in vehicles entering the Kathmandu Valley and plying on inner roads in the morning. While acknowledging the positive work of the traffic police in taking action against traffic rule violators and spreading awareness through social media in recent days, she demanded increased monitoring in areas like Karyavinayak-Nakhu.

Speaking at the meeting, she said, 'In places where the normal speed limit is set at 30 kilometers per hour, such heavily loaded vehicles are driven at speeds of 80 kilometers per hour.'

MP Shrestha urged the concerned bodies through the Speaker to immediately control speeding vehicles and ensure road safety.
