Congress Appoints Former RSP Leaders Mamata Sharma and Urmila Bhurtel to Party Positions

Kathmandu. The Congress has given responsibilities to two leaders who left the Rastriya Swatantra Party and joined the party on the eve of the House of Representatives election. Congress has nominated Mamata Sharma, who left the RSP and joined the party, as a central member, and Urmila Bhurtel as a central member of the Women's Association.

Congress President Gagan Thapa had nominated Sharma as a central member on Tuesday. 'Mamata Sharma (Bara), who has left the Rastriya Swatantra Party and joined the Nepali Congress, has been nominated to the post of central member of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee in accordance with the provisions of Article 4, Sub-section (10) (e) of the Nepali Congress Constitution, 2017 (as amended),' informed Krishna Prasad Dulal, acting chief secretary of the party's central office, through a press release.

Sharma is also the founding president of the RSP's Madhesh Province. 

On Tuesday, Bhurtel was nominated as a central member of the Women's Association by its president Minakumari Kharel. While Kharel nominated 70 central members, she nominated Bhurtel as a central member at number 19. She was a founding member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. She was also the sole direct candidate from Madhesh Province in the 2079 House of Representatives election.
