Mixed Weather Expected Across Nepal Today

Kathmandu. According to the weather forecast, the country will experience mixed weather in various parts today, Tuesday.  

According to data from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, especially in the Terai regions of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces, today will be a 'hot day'. While temperatures will be high in the cities of western Terai, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning with rain in other hilly and eastern parts of the country.

Excessive heat will be felt in the major cities of Terai this afternoon. According to the forecast, the maximum temperature in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj will reach 39 to 41 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the temperature in Dipayal will reach 38 to 40, Bhairahawa 37 to 39, Birendranagar 36 to 38, and Ghorahi 35 to 37 degrees Celsius.

These cities will have clear weather and excessive heat this afternoon, and the weather is expected to remain mainly clear at night. However, there is a 20 percent chance of light rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Bhairahawa at night.

While the western Terai is suffering from heat, other hilly, mountainous, and eastern cities will experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning. In the country's federal capital Kathmandu, there is a 40 percent chance of moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning this afternoon, with the maximum temperature expected to be between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius.  

The possibility of moderate rain is highest in the tourist city of Pokhara, as well as in Okhaldhunga and Taplejung, at 60 percent. Light rain with thunderstorms is also forecast in Dadeldhura, Jumla, Simara, Biratnagar, Jomsom, Dharan, and Janakpur this afternoon.

Looking at the weather tonight, rain is expected to continue in most hilly and eastern Terai cities. Pokhara, Kathmandu, Janakpur, Jiri, and Taplejung will experience moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning at night. Similarly, Simara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Jomsom, and Dharan have a chance of light rain with thunderstorms at night.

Today, the lowest temperature in the country will be in Jumla, where the minimum temperature at night will drop to 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. Overall, while the western Terai will face dry and excessive heat, other regions will experience relief in the form of rain with thunderstorms.
