Pokhara Metropolis Demolishes 20 Structures in Phirke Riverbank Clearance

Pokhara. Bulldozers have been put into operation since Sunday in the process of clearing the Phirke riverbank. Pokhara Metropolitan City has started operating bulldozers after discussions and dialogues in various phases. Mayor Dhanraj Acharya informed that 20 structures were demolished in a single day on Sunday. According to him, 8 permanent and 12 temporary structures were demolished.

There are 160 structures on the Phirke riverbank. He stated that these structures will be demolished within a few days. "The campaign will continue. Phirke will be cleared in 2 days," he said. The metropolis has started work to divert the natural flow of the Phirke river and clear the encroached land.

There was a large presence of security bodies, people's representatives, and civil society in removing the structures. Mayor Acharya stated that additional manpower and equipment will be mobilized from Monday. The metropolis has stated that a special technical team has been mobilized to clear the filled areas so that there is no obstruction to the natural flow of the river.
