Sanga Underpass Construction Intensifies

Kathmandu. The underpass being constructed at Sanga, the main eastern entry and exit point of the Kathmandu Valley, has gained momentum. The underpass is being constructed at Sanga, located at the border of Bhaktapur and Kavrepalanchok, under the Suryabinayak–Dhulikhel road expansion project along the Arniko Highway.

Currently, the Suryabinayak–Dhulikhel road is being upgraded to four lanes. Due to the high hills in the Sanga area, the road has been constructed with two lanes each, separated vertically. Under this, a one-way underpass with two lanes for vehicles exiting the Kathmandu Valley is being constructed.

According to the project, the underpass has been constructed to facilitate travel as vehicles have to climb a long incline when exiting from Bhaktapur in the Sanga area. It is also aimed at making vehicle movement in Sangachok organized and seamless.

The total length of the underpass is 1,110 meters. Of this, 20 meters is a bridge, 190 meters towards Banepa, and 900 meters of approach road towards Bhaktapur are being constructed. The height of the underpass will be 6 meters and the width will be 10.5 meters.

The project has stated that approximately 90 percent of the underpass construction work has been completed. The main structure of the underpass and the approach road have been completed, and the work on the side retaining walls and pavement surface is in the final stages.

Upon completion of construction, vehicles going from Bhaktapur towards Banepa will operate through the underpass, while vehicles coming from Banepa towards Bhaktapur will use the upper road.
