Extreme Heat in Sudurpashchim and Lumbini, Rain in Hilly Areas

Kathmandu. Extreme heat is expected in the Terai regions of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces on Wednesday. 

According to weather forecasts, temperatures are likely to rise significantly in these areas this afternoon. Most cities in the western Terai will experience strong sunshine and a 'hot day' feeling in the afternoon.

The highest temperature today is predicted in Dhangadhi. The maximum temperature there is estimated to reach between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the temperature in Nepalgunj will be between 38 and 40 degrees, Dipayal between 37 and 39 degrees, and Bhairahawa and Birendranagar between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. There is no possibility of rain in these cities, so it will be extremely hot during the afternoon.

While the heat is increasing in the western Terai, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning with rain in the hilly and eastern parts of the country. Light to moderate rain is expected in the afternoon in cities including the capital Kathmandu, Pokhara, Simara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, Jiri, and Taplejung. Specifically, there is a possibility of up to 40 percent moderate rain in Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, and Taplejung this afternoon. The maximum temperature in Kathmandu today will be between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius.

Looking at the weather tonight, the sky will be mostly clear in cities like Dadeldhura, Dipayal, and Dhangadhi in Sudurpashchim. However, the weather will not clear up in many places in the central and eastern regions at night.

There is a possibility of light rain with thunderstorms and lightning at night in Pokhara, Simara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, Janakpur, and Taplejung. In the hilly and mountainous districts of Jomsom and Jumla, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy during the day and night today.
