MP Janak Singh Dhami Demands Strong Embankments for Dodha and Chaudhar Rivers

Kathmandu. National Independent Party (NSP) MP Janak Singh Dhami has demanded that the government build strong embankments on the Dodha and Chaudhar rivers, stating that the sleep and hunger of the residents of some areas of Kanchanpur Constituency No. 1 are lost as soon as the rainy season begins.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, MP Dhami said that the hunger and sleep of the people of Laljhadi, Belauri, Beldandi, and Punarbas are lost when floods occur in the Dodha and Chandani rivers during the rainy season.

He said that the Rana-Tharu people reside in that area and stated, 'The name of that river, which is a curse that takes away the sleep and hunger of the people, is Dodha and Chaudhar rivers. The lives of the people in this area are at high risk due to land erosion, inundation, and silting caused by the high flow of these two rivers,' said MP Dhami.

He said that the land has become barren and people have become landless, and some have been forced to go to India to earn a living. He also demanded that the area be declared a Rana Tharu Protected Area.
