Pokhara Metropolis Demolishes 51 Structures at Amar Singh Chowk

Pokhara. Pokhara Metropolis has bulldozed the shutters and huts in Amar Singh Chowk, which have been mired in controversy for a long time. The 51 huts located next to the Prithvi Highway were removed by bulldozers early Tuesday morning.

Ward Chairman Santosh Bastola said that huts have been rented out on this land, which is under the jurisdiction of Amar Singh Secondary School, since 2038 BS. He said that the huts were removed by agreement in coordination with businessmen, the school, and the ward.

'We started working to remove and manage these huts from the day we were elected. Dozens of meetings have been held,' he said. 'Now the businessmen have also supported us. The huts have been removed smoothly.' In fact, the businessmen had even filed a lawsuit against the removal without alternatives. After the court ruled in favor of the school, the businessmen agreed to remove the huts. According to metropolis sources, there has been an oral agreement to prioritize old businessmen in the organized shutters to be built after this.

Before sending the bulldozer to the huts in Amar Singh, Pokhara Metropolitan City held an all-party meeting on Monday. Participants in the meeting, attended by security agencies, suggested that such structures should be removed. After that, the metropolis mobilized bulldozers early Tuesday morning.

Even before the metropolis sent the bulldozer, the businessmen had vacated their shutters. Some have even removed construction materials from the structures. Now the metropolis has only done the demolition work.
