Six Local Units from Dailekh and Kalikot Hold Development Discussion at Mahavu Lake

Surkhet. A 'Development Debate' has been completed at Mahavu Lake, located at the highest altitude among six local units of Dailekh and Kalikot.

Mahavu Lake, located on the border of Mahavu Rural Municipality of Dailekh and Mahavai Rural Municipality of Kalikot, is a major tourist area in Karnali Province. Two local units have been named after Mahavu. On Sunday, a 'Development Debate' focused on common development issues was organized at the same location among six local units from two districts.

The debate included the participation of the chairpersons of Mahavu Rural Municipality and Naumule Rural Municipality of Dailekh, and the chief of Narayan Municipality. Similarly, representatives from Mahavai Rural Municipality of Kalikot, and Khandachakra Municipality and Tilagufa Municipality participated.

Chief guest and Deputy Speaker of the Karnali Provincial Assembly, Yashoda Neupane, informed that extensive discussions were held on small and large development projects falling within the working areas of these municipalities.

A six-point common commitment has also been expressed after the development debate.

These are the commitments and decisions:

1. Under the federal road, a tri-country multi-year project from Lumbini Province's Banke district (Jamunaha-Kohalpur) via Surkhet-Dailekh-Mahavu Lake to Nagam of Kalikot and Nakchelagla of Humla is in implementation. Currently, roads are operational from Jamunaha to Mahavu Lake in Dailekh and from Nagam to Mugu, but the track is yet to be opened in the section from Mahavu Lake to Nagam. It was decided to coordinate a meeting of representatives from Narayan Municipality, Naumule Rural Municipality, Mahavu Rural Municipality of Dailekh, and Mahavai Rural Municipality, Tilagufa Municipality, and Khandachakra Municipality of Kalikot, who will benefit from this road, to demand the necessary budget from the federal government for opening the track and upgrading this road section.

2. A decision was made to demand a budget for the development and promotion of Mahavai Dham, a famous religious pilgrimage site located on the border of Kalikot and Dailekh districts, among the various religious and tourist areas in Karnali Province, considering the geographical difficulties, for the construction of necessary infrastructure.

3. A decision was made to ensure effective communication, coordination, and facilitation on issues of peace and security, crime control, inter-district theft and smuggling control, disaster management, and development construction in Dailekh and Kalikot districts.

4. A decision was made to proceed with the construction work on a co-investment basis by the participating local units in the meeting for the development of Mahavu Dham by preparing a detailed project report (DPR) and developing tourism infrastructure.

5. Although the investigation work for the excavation of petroleum products in Bhairavi Rural Municipality-1, Jaljale of Dailekh has been completed, the production process has not yet started. Therefore, a decision was made to demand from the federal government to expedite the work.

6. A decision was made to demand the allocation of necessary budget from the federal government for the construction of the road connecting Galne-Chilkhaya-Udu of Tilagufa Municipality in Kalikot via Naumule in Dailekh to Surkhet.
