Extreme Heat in Terai Plains, Rain Expected in Hills

Kathmandu. According to the weather forecast issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, extreme heat is expected in the Terai regions of the country. Particularly, the Terai plains of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces are predicted to reach high temperatures. Most cities in the Terai will experience a 'hot day' in the afternoon, while various cities in the hilly and mountainous regions have a possibility of thunderstorms and rain. According to the forecast, Nepalgunj will experience the highest temperature in the country today. The maximum temperature there will reach between 39 to 41 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the maximum temperature in Dipayal, Dhangadhi, and Bhairahawa will be between 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. These cities will experience extreme heat during the day, and the weather will be completely 'hot day' conditions. The maximum temperature in Birendranagar, Ghorahi, Simara, and Janakpur will reach between 34 to 37 degrees Celsius. During the night, the weather in most of the Terai plains will remain mostly clear. While the temperature is rising in the Terai, rain is expected in cities in the hilly and mountainous regions. Pokhara, Dhankuta, and Taplejung are predicted to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Similarly, light rain with thunderstorms is expected in the federal capital Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Biratnagar, Jomsom, and Jir. Pokhara and Taplejung have a 40 percent chance of rain. During the night, light to moderate rain is likely to continue in Pokhara, Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Jir, and Taplejung. Biratnagar and Jomsom will only have partial cloud cover at night. In cities like Dadeldhura, Jumla, and Dharan, although there is no possibility of rain, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy during both day and night. Jumla will have the lowest maximum temperature between 27 to 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature between 9 to 11 degrees Celsius.
