Dhading Police Seize 51kg Opium, Firearms

Dhading. Dhading police, searching for a fugitive defendant, have recovered a large quantity of illegal drug opium and weapons. 51 kg 980 grams of pure opium have been recovered from Hoang, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality–2, in southern Dhading.

Along with opium and an illegal muzzle-loading gun, 35-year-old Bir Bahadur Tamang, a resident of the same place, has been arrested, informed Prakash Dahal, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Dhading. While searching for the defendant, upon receiving information about a large drug trade, the police searched Tamang's house.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dahal said, "A team dispatched under the command of Suraj Karki, Chief of Gajuri Police Office and Deputy Superintendent of Police, raided Tamang's house and cowshed.

During the search, a 4 feet 6 inch long muzzle-loading gun and two digital scales were found hidden inside the cowshed where goats are tied. Black viscous substance resembling opium was found in five plastic buckets near the bed in the room where Tamang slept."

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dahal stated that the gross weight was confirmed to be 51 kg 980 grams when weighed in the presence of local representatives. The arrested Tamang is a defendant who was absconding after being involved in a drug case previously. Along with the recovered drugs and weapons, a case related to drug and illegal arms possession has been registered against him at the Area Police Office, Gajuri.

He has been taken into custody after extending his remand period from the District Court, Dhading, for further investigation and legal proceedings. Police have also arrested 28-year-old Biraj Tamang and Sanokanchha Tamang from their respective homes in Hoang with two more muzzle-loading guns and have initiated further action. Deputy Superintendent of Police Dahal informed that both were arrested from their respective homes.
