Energy Minister Forms Committee for Electricity Regulatory Commission Appointments

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has initiated a selection process through open competition for the appointment of vacant office bearers of the Electricity Regulatory Commission. Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha formed a three-member recommendation committee through a ministerial-level decision on Wednesday to select the commission's office bearers.

The committee, formed under the convenorship of Ministry Secretary Chiranjivi Chataut, includes Ministry of Energy Joint Secretary Sagarraj Gautam and energy expert Satishnarayan Joshi as members. The committee is preparing to call for applications through open competition for the posts of Chairperson and four members of the Electricity Regulatory Commission. The ministry has stated that a public notice will be issued with a deadline of 15 days for this.

Previously, the commission became leaderless after the commission's chairperson and four members were automatically removed from their posts in accordance with the 'Special Arrangement Ordinance on Removal of Public Office Bearers 2083' issued by the government.

According to the Electricity Regulatory Commission Act, the committee is required to recommend the names of suitable candidates to the ministry within 21 days of the deadline for applications expiring, after evaluating the received applications.
