Road Division Office Mahendranagar Issues 15-Day Ultimatum to Remove Encroachments on Mahendra Highway

Kathmandu. Road Division Office Mahendranagar has issued a final 15-day warning to remove encroachments on the Chisapani-Attariya-Gaddachauki road section of the Mahendra Highway. The office issued a notice on Wednesday directing the removal of illegal structures within the road boundary. According to the Road Division, a road boundary of 25-25 meters has been established from the center point of the highway to the right and left. Within this area, permanent or temporary houses, huts, shops, and other structures built without the approval of the Department of Roads have been instructed to be removed mandatorily within 15 days from the date of publication of this notice. The notice states that according to the Public Roads Act, 2031, it is prohibited to construct permanent or temporary houses or huts within the road boundary, to place construction materials or other goods for sale, to fill drains and build entrances or demolish road structures, to mix sewage or water into the roadside drains, or to carry out any activity that obstructs traffic and road users. The Road Division Office has warned that if the encroachments are not removed within the stipulated 15-day period, it will demolish these structures itself in accordance with subsection (3) of section 19 of the Public Roads Act, 2031. The notice clarifies that all expenses incurred in removing the structures will be recovered from the concerned person or organization.
