17 Arrested for Gambling in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. Police have arrested 17 people from a rented room in Manmaiju, Ward No. 10 of Tarkeshwor Municipality, Kathmandu, while they were gambling with dice.  

Based on a special tip that gambling was taking place in the room of local Prem Tamang on the night of Baisakh 26, a team from Balaju Police Station was dispatched and took them under control.  

During the search, police recovered Rs 404,000 in cash, 7 decks of cards, and 17 dice from the gambling den. Those arrested include the room owner Prem Tamang, 35, Bhola Khatri, 45, Achyut Joshi, 62, Dipesh Khadki, 52, Dilip Lama, 48, and Pemba Lama, 69.  

Similarly, Prem Bahadur Lama, 39, Purushottam Thapa, 49, Rajan Pyakurel, 33, Shyam Krishna Chalise, 42, Som Raj Lama, 49, Buddha Lama, 36, and Keshab Prasad Pa, 48, have also come under police control.  

Other individuals arrested include Ram Shankar Parajuli, 43, Shankhabajra Lama, 40, Dharma Singh Tamang, 44, and Shyam Hari Shrestha, 35, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kaushal Kumar Budhathoki. Budhathoki informed that further investigation is underway with a 6-day remand extension obtained from the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, for all those arrested.
