Harka Sampang Expresses Dissatisfaction with Chief Justice Appointment Process

Kathmandu. Chairman of the Labor Culture Party and Member of Parliament Harkaraj Rai (Harka Sampang) has expressed dissatisfaction with the Chief Justice appointment process. Releasing a press statement on Friday, Sampang, who is also the parliamentary party leader, said that the government had recommended for appointment by violating rules and procedures. 

Chairman Sampang mentioned that issuing an ordinance related to the Constitutional Council by bypassing parliament and pressuring the head of state was a wrong step in itself. He termed the government's decision to appoint the person ranked fourth in seniority as Chief Justice as a big mistake, clarifying that such a wrong act can never be justified. 

Sampang expressed dissatisfaction particularly with the role of the person who became the Deputy Speaker from his own party. "It is regrettable that the Deputy Speaker, who came from our own party, also signed the decision that violated the order of seniority, at a time when pressure and influence were created by bringing up issues like MCC and SPP in the appointment meeting," the statement said.

Chairman Sampang also suspected that political and legal interests were hidden in this appointment process. He claimed that the government might have taken such a step to get decisions in its favor on serious issues like the cooperative fraud case and the 'GenZ' movement of August 23-24.
