Indian National Congress Signals Support for Actor Vijay's Political Party in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu. The Indian National Congress has signaled its support for the political party of popular South Indian film actor Vijay, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal revealed that TVK chief Vijay had sought support from Congress to form a new government.

Commenting on the election results in Tamil Nadu, Venugopal said, ‘Congress has a clear belief that the people of Tamil Nadu have given a mandate in favor of a secular government, a government committed to protecting both the spirit and the letter of the constitution.’ 

He stated that Congress wishes that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies do not operate the government in Tamil Nadu under any circumstances.

Venugopal also informed that TVK chief Vijay has mentioned that he will move forward inspired by the historic leader of Congress, Kamaraj. 
In this context, the Congress leadership has already instructed the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee to make a final decision on Vijay's proposal, keeping in mind the local public sentiment and the electoral mandate.

In the recently concluded elections in Tamil Nadu, actor Vijay's party TVK has become the largest party by winning 108 seats out of a total of 234 seats. However, TVK needs 10 more seats to reach the required majority of 118 seats to form the government. In this election, Congress has won 5 seats.

With the potential support of Congress and other secular parties, political activity is intensifying for the formation of a new government in Tamil Nadu.
