Postmortem of Indra Bahadur Rai Found Dead Near Bagmati River Completed

Kathmandu. The postmortem of Indra Bahadur Rai, who was found dead near the Bagmati river bank in the squatter settlement at Balkhu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, has been completed. The family received his body after the postmortem at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. SP Pawan Bhattarai of the District Police Range Kathmandu told Ratopati that the family received the body on April 20.

Rai, 61, originally from Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-11, Khotang, was living in the squatter settlement at Bansighat. It is suspected that he committed suicide after the government bulldozed his shanty. However, the police are investigating his death.

Doctors at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital have informed the investigating officers about the preliminary details of the postmortem. According to the preliminary postmortem report, Rai's death appeared to be due to 'drowning'. However, the written report of the postmortem has not yet been received.

A police officer involved in the investigation said, 'The written postmortem report has not been received, doctors have given preliminary details of death due to drowning.'

Rai's family is currently performing mourning rituals in Dhobighat, Lalitpur. They have not gone to the holding center after the government demolished their shanty. Although the government had requested squatters to register their details at Dasharath Rangasala, they have not yet registered their family details.

According to family sources, they will go to the Rangasala to register their details on Tuesday.
