Buddha Jayanti Celebrated Across Nepal

Kathmandu. The 2570th birth anniversary of Siddhartha Gautam, known worldwide as the apostle of peace, is being celebrated today by worshipping and discoursing on Buddha, who was born as the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

This festival is celebrated in remembrance of the contribution made by Siddhartha Gautam to establish world peace. As Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana (death) all fall on the date of Baishakh Shukla Purnima, Buddhists in Nepal and around the world celebrate Buddha Jayanti with heartfelt reverence and devotion on this day. 

Buddhists complete the traditional worship and other rituals performed by lamas and Buddhist religious leaders at places like chaityas, monasteries, and viharas. On this occasion, there is a tradition of celebrating Buddha Jayanti by organizing various programs at places like Lumbini, Swayambhu, and Boudha.
