BP Highway closed in Kavre due to flood risks from heavy rainfall

Kavrepalanchok. Due to heavy afternoon rainfall, security agencies have closed traffic on the BP Highway to mitigate potential risks. The District Police Office, Dhulikhel, halted movement on the road section from Katunje in Namobuddha to Mangaltar in Roshi, Kavrepalanchok, starting at 3:30 PM.

Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rabin Bista, stated that the closure was implemented to prevent accidents caused by severe flooding in the Roshi River. He urged the public to check the status of the highway before traveling and advised against using this section until further notice.

Rising water levels in the Roshi River have frequently washed away temporary diversions previously constructed on the highway. After last year's floods and landslides destroyed 18 km of the road in the Roshi and Nepalthok areas of Sindhuli, traffic had been operating via temporary diversions. Similarly, in the third week of Chaitra last year, temporary diversions were rebuilt after 4 km of the road was washed away in various locations.

Meanwhile, following the road blockage, vehicles are currently being held at the highway entry points of Kavrebhanjyang in Dhulikhel and Nepalthok in Sindhuli. Since the Chaukidanda-Nepalthok section was completely damaged by floods and landslides last Ashoj, traffic has been managed through temporary roads and diversions built along the riverbed. The Division Road Office, Bhaktapur, stated that permanent road construction is currently underway in the area.
