Lawmaker Bishwaraj Pokharel issues apology over controversial video

Okhaldhunga. Member of the House of Representatives Bishwaraj Pokharel has issued an apology regarding a controversial video that surfaced on social media.

Through a press release issued on Saturday, he stated that the reality was different, as only a partial clip was made public without understanding the full context of the incident.

On Baisakh 9, Pokharel had visited Shree Chandeshwori Secondary School in Khijidemba Rural Municipality-2, Rani, with the objective of meeting with district residents, interacting, and understanding the local situation. Following the release of a video showing him expressing anger because the principal did not come to the gate to welcome him upon his arrival at the school, he faced widespread criticism.

In the statement, he acknowledged that one's speech, behavior, and restraint should be of a high standard while in public life. 'If my expression or behavior has hurt anyone's self-respect and feelings, I apologize from the bottom of my heart,' he mentioned.

Following this incident, Ganesh Karki, a lawmaker from his own party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, made a sarcastic comment regarding his behavior. Subsequently, he offered a formal apology. 

Pokharel expressed his commitment to remaining responsible and dignified as a servant of the people and stated that he would work with more restraint and focus on dialogue in the coming days.
