Aam Janata Party Chair Prabhu Sah Demands National Holiday for Janaki Jayanti

Kathmandu. Aam Janata Party (AJP) Chair and former minister Prabhu Sah has demanded that the government include the birth anniversary of Mother Sita, a national icon and source of pride for Nepal, in the official government calendar and celebrate it as a national festival with a public holiday.

Addressing the Janaki Jayanti ceremony organized by the AJP-affiliated Aam Mahila Morcha Kathmandu Valley Special Committee in Koteshwor today (Saturday), he urged the government to recognize Janaki Jayanti as a national festival with an official public holiday.

'We celebrate Ram Navami and Krishna Janmashtami, yet we forget the birth anniversary of Mother Sita, a national icon and pride of our own country, Nepal. We must celebrate Sita's birth anniversary as a matter of national pride,' said AJP Chair Sah. 'I have a special request to the government to include Sita Jayanti in the government calendar and celebrate it as a national festival with a public holiday.'

He stated that Mother Sita, an unparalleled embodiment of love, sacrifice, dedication, and struggle, is not only a subject of religious faith but also an inspiring source of social transformation. Sah noted that the tolerance, integrity, self-respect, and determination shown by Mother Sita provide guidance for today's society to move toward gender equality, social justice, and the construction of a civilized culture.

When AJP Chair Sah was a minister in the government led by KP Oli, his proposal to include Sita Jayanti in the calendar and celebrate it with a public holiday was rejected. Having raised this issue for a long time, Sah noted that those who rejected it are no longer in power, and he drew the attention of the government led by Balen Shah to celebrate Sita Jayanti as a national festival.

The Janaki Jayanti ceremony, chaired by Women's Front Vice President and Kathmandu Valley Special Committee In-charge Ranju Kumari Sah, saw the participation of AJP spokesperson Subhash Sah, AJP Kathmandu Valley President Vijay Yadav Nirbij, Secretary Upendra Sah, Aam Cultural Front President Sarita Sah, Women's Front General Secretary Seema Jaiswal, AJP leaders Arjun BC, Suman Yadav, Mina Devi Sah, Kathmandu District President Khagej Ranjitkar, Aam Dalit Front General Secretary Ramashankar Paswan, and Purnashobha Bajracharya, among others.
