Unplanned settlement along Bagmati river in Thapathali being cleared

Kathmandu. The unplanned settlement located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Thapathali is being cleared. The clearing process began at 8 AM with the deployment of bulldozers.

According to the Metropolitan City, most of the residents have moved out by finding rooms on their own, while some have gone to stay with relatives. 

Six families who stated they are homeless have been taken to Dasharath Rangasala. The Metropolitan Police Force and Nepal Police stated that they provided humanitarian, transportation, and logistical support to those who wished to relocate voluntarily before the huts were demolished. 

The government is preparing to rehabilitate the squatters in five different locations for the time being. Alongside the campaign to clear government land in Thapathali, Gairigaun, and Manohara areas, the government will provide alternative housing options for landless individuals who own no property elsewhere, specifically in Nagarjun (Ichangu), Kirtipur, Bode, Kharipati, and Chandbag. However, they have been taken to the stadium for screening beforehand.
