Demand to Shift Academic Calendar in Himalayan Districts

Pokhara. A demand has been raised to change the academic calendar for Himalayan districts. Yogesh Gauchan, a Member of Parliament elected from Mustang, has requested that the new academic session begin in Falgun, considering the unique geographical conditions of Mustang and all other Himalayan districts.

Gauchan stated that an agreement to change the academic calendar was reached during a meeting between Himalayan district MPs and the Minister of Education. On Chaitra 22, he submitted a memorandum to Minister of Education Sumana Shrestha, demanding that the academic session for Himalayan districts be set from Falgun to Mangsir.

Previously, according to a 2079 BS letter from the Center for Education and Human Resource Development, the academic session was arranged to begin in Baisakh nationwide. 

However, due to extreme cold in the Himalayan districts during Poush and Magh, and the migration of residents from some high-altitude areas to escape the winter, teaching and examinations were disrupted, leading to a decline in the quality of education for students.
