Tour de Lumbini: Pedal for Peace 2026 to Promote Global Harmony

Kathmandu. The 'Tour de Lumbini-Pedal for Peace 2026' is set to be organized with the aim of spreading a message of peace in Nepal. According to Tour de Lumbini founder Megh Ale, the cycling journey from Kathmandu to Lumbini will take place from Baisakh 15 to 19.

It is reported that cyclists from Nepal and abroad, youth, corporate representatives, and media personnel will actively participate in this cycling journey for peace. This campaign, which has been running continuously since 2012, aims to convey the message of peace, coexistence, and reconstruction to the grassroots level.

Initiated under the concept of social entrepreneur and Ashoka Fellow Megh Ale, the campaign is led by world cyclist Pushkar Shah. With the objective of spreading the message of peace worldwide from Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, the campaign has a long-term goal of establishing Nepal as a 'Peace Center' at the international level.

Founder Ale stated that being situated between two large economies like India and China, Nepal has the potential to play a significant role in world peace. This campaign aims to promote Nepal as a hub for peace dialogue. This year's edition will focus specifically on the active participation of youth.

The campaign aims to develop into a platform that advocates for a sustainable, transparent, and peaceful future by connecting youth engagement in the digital age with physical endurance and social responsibility. Local communities will also participate in various stages of the journey.

Speaking at a press conference, founder Ale said, 'In the context of instability caused by global events such as the Russia-Ukraine war and US-Iran tensions, the importance of such peace campaigns has increased even more.' The campaign has also proposed a plan to award the 'Lumbini Peace Prize' to individuals contributing to the field of peace in the future.

Nepal Tourism Board Senior Officer Robin Regmi expressed his belief that such programs will further help in branding Nepal internationally. He stated that if the number of international participants can be increased, this campaign will become stronger and contribute to tourism promotion.

Similarly, Board Media Consultant Dilip Prakash Karki expressed the view that if warring parties from increasing global conflicts can be invited to Lumbini, Nepal for peace dialogues, its importance will grow further.
