Nepal Government Mandates 45% Student Fare Discount on Public Transport

Kathmandu. The government has issued a directive to strictly enforce the 45 percent fare discount facility provided to students on public transportation as per the law.

The Department of Transport Management, under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, has issued this directive through official correspondence to transport operators.

According to the Department, students are entitled to a 45 percent discount on transport fares based on the decision made between the government and transport entrepreneurs on 2065 Falgun 20. However, following numerous complaints received through 'Hello Sarkar' and the department's grievance box regarding public vehicles failing to provide the mandated discount, the department has reiterated the requirement.

In a letter issued by Department Director Ganeshman Singh Rai, addressed to the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, the Central Federation of Public Transport, and Sajha Yatayat, the department has requested the effective implementation of the student discount facility. The department has also stated that vehicles failing to implement this government-mandated discount will face legal action.
