Renowned Darjeeling Singer Pawan Gole to Perform at Paleti

Kathmandu. Renowned Darjeeling singer Pawan Gole is set to perform at the upcoming Paleti musical series, held on the last Friday and Saturday of the month at Nepalaya's 'R' Sala. Gole previously graced the Paleti stage 14 years ago.

In this edition, Gole will perform a mix of his classic hits and new compositions. The new tracks feature melodies by composer Ramesh Gurung, with whom Gole has been actively rehearsing. They are being supported by the resident Paleti ensemble.

Paleti is a musical program that has been promoting Nepali modern music for the past 21 years. Gole is a familiar name among Nepali-speaking audiences, particularly for his most popular song, 'Hawasanga Bagun Bhanchha, Patasanga Bolun Bhanchha.' He has been a long-standing figure in the Darjeeling music scene.

Gole served as an artist for the 'Information and Culture Department' under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA)—formerly known as the 'Song and Drama Unit'—until his retirement in 2021. Despite his retirement, he remains deeply committed to his musical career.

Although Gole has recorded numerous songs since gaining fame with the Suvarna Limbu-composed track 'Hawasanga Bagun Bhanchha,' he has not performed extensively for the general Nepali audience. Recognizing this, Paleti has invited him back to Kathmandu.

This time, Gole will perform new melodies by Suvarna Limbu, alongside compositions by Paras Gajmer, Basanta Chhetri, Pradip Chhetri, and Ramesh Gurung. The lyrics featured in his performance include works by Shiva Shankar Thapa, Narden Rumba, Jitendra Bardewa, Jas Yonjan Pyasi, Puran Giri, Suren Thing, Sanjay Bantawa, Sanjay Bista, Kalu Singh Ranapaheli, Pramod Snehi, and Arun Tiwari.

Gole, who first performed at Paleti in 2012, has curated a setlist consisting of half classic and half new material for this appearance. He will be accompanied by composer Ramesh Gurung on the new tracks.

Reflecting on his 2012 debut, Gole said, 'The beautiful memories of my previous Paleti performance are still fresh, and I am thrilled to return to this stage. Having composer Ramesh Gurung by my side makes it even better. I hope to receive the same love from both old and new audiences for my creative work.'

Composer Ramesh Gurung, who is participating in Paleti for the second time, shared his excitement: 'I first came to Paleti in 2006 to accompany Dawa Gyalmo on the harmonium. This time, I have the opportunity to serve as a composer, and that too alongside my senior, Pawan Dai. I am very happy.'
