BP Highway blocked in Kavre due to rain-induced damage

Kavrepalanchok. The BP Highway section from Katunje in Namobuddha to Mangaltar in Roshi, Kavre, has been obstructed since this morning due to rainfall.

The District Police Office reported that the road is blocked after the 'diversion' was washed away at various points along the Katunje-Mangaltar section. Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista stated that while repair work on the diversion has begun, it will take several hours to resume traffic. According to him, the temporary diversion constructed on the highway was swept away after the water level in the Roshi River rose due to the rain.

Following the destruction of 18 km of the highway in the Roshi and Nepalthok areas of Sindhuli by floods and landslides last year, traffic had been operating via a newly constructed diversion. Similarly, after four kilometers of the same area were washed away in the third week of Chaitra last year, a temporary diversion was rebuilt.

Meanwhile, with the highway blocked, vehicles are currently being 'held' at the highway entry points of Kavrebhanjyang in Dhulikhel and Nepalthok in Sindhuli. Police have requested the public to travel only after checking the status of the highway and have appealed to avoid traveling through that section until further notice.

After the floods and landslides of last Ashoj completely damaged the Chaukidanda-Nepalthok road section, vehicles had been operating through temporary roads and diversions built along the riverbed. The Division Road Office, Bhaktapur, stated that permanent road construction is currently underway in the area.
