Ram Gopal Varma Criticizes Portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim in 'Dhurandhar 2'

Mumbai. Renowned Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma has praised the technical aspects and storytelling of Aditya Dhar's recently released film 'Dhurandhar 2', but expressed strong disagreement with the portrayal of a key character. Varma, who has deep expertise in underworld-themed narratives, claimed that the depiction of Dawood Ibrahim in the film does not align with reality.

Speaking on author Hussain Zaidi's YouTube channel, Varma mentioned that many aspects of the film impressed him. However, he is not satisfied with how Dawood Ibrahim is portrayed.

In the film, Dawood is presented as 'Bade Sahab', shown playing the role of a mastermind operating terrorist activities in India from Pakistan. According to director Varma, while filmmakers may have their own sources, in his view, this portrayal is incorrect and illogical.

Varma argued that Dawood Ibrahim has been inactive in such criminal activities for a long time. Based on his understanding and research, he claimed that Dawood has been distanced from the criminal world for about 20 years. He stated that Dawood is no longer the active and dangerous mastermind as depicted in the film.

However, Varma did not claim that his perspective is the absolute truth. He acknowledged that no one can confirm the complete truth about Dawood's current status. 'Neither can I prove this wrong, nor can the director prove it right,' Varma said.
