Deputy Chairperson of Beldadi Rural Municipality Arrested in Kanchanpur

Mahendranagar. Shanti Nath, the Deputy Chairperson of Beldadi Rural Municipality in Kanchanpur, has been arrested. Spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Deputy Superintendent of Police Hem Bahadur Shahi, confirmed that the Deputy Chairperson was taken into custody from Mahendranagar on Thursday.

“She has been arrested in connection with a homicide case and is being held at the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, for further investigation,” Shahi stated, adding, “The case was initiated by the Area Police Office, Beldadi.” He noted that Nath was apprehended after the District Court, Kanchanpur, granted an arrest warrant following a formal complaint.

The body of Harikishan Rana was previously discovered burned alongside his motorcycle in Belauri, Kanchanpur. In the first week of Baisakh, Rana, a resident of Kamari, Beldadi Rural Municipality-3, was found dead near Ghatiya Ghat Road in Shivnagar, Belauri Municipality-10.

Following the discovery of the 50-year-old Rana's burned remains, Deepak Bohara, the Member of Parliament elected from Kanchanpur Constituency No. 2, recently demanded an impartial investigation and action against those responsible during a session of the House of Representatives. Police have been investigating the incident, treating it as suspicious while determining whether it was a road accident or a homicide.
