Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal moves to finalize unification process

Kathmandu. Following the House of Representatives elections held on Falgun 21, the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, which has yet to conduct an election review, is now focused on finalizing its party unification process.

Prior to the elections, a merger took place between the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal, led by Mahantha Thakur, and the JSP Nepal, led by Upendra Yadav. The JSP Nepal, which had initiated the unification process in haste for election purposes, is only now moving to complete it.

JSP Nepal leader Jitendra Sonal stated that because the party moved forward with the unification in a hurry to participate in the elections, they are now working to finalize it. He noted that the Election Commission had requested missing documentation, and work is underway to prepare and submit those documents to the commission.

Additionally, Sonal mentioned that the process of party integration is also being advanced.

Following the party merger, a 43-member Central Coordination Committee was formed on Poush 27. In that committee, Mahantha Thakur was designated as patron, Upendra Yadav as chairman, and all others as members. The central committees and sister organizations of both parties, along with other committees, have been kept intact.

An agreement was reached between the two parties that their respective central committees and sister organizations would operate under the direction of the Central Coordination Committee. It is reported that the integration work between the two parties will now proceed.

Despite the merger, the party suffered a significant defeat in the elections, failing to win a single seat in the House of Representatives. The reasons for the party's defeat have not yet been reviewed. Although a meeting of the Central Coordination Committee was called for Chaitra 15 to conduct an election review, it was postponed indefinitely on the same day. Party sources indicate that it is still uncertain when the next meeting will be held.
