Nepali Congress Prepares to Field Candidate for Public Accounts Committee Chair

Kathmandu. The main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, is preparing to field a candidate for the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives. Congress lawmaker Bhishmaraj Aangdambe confirmed that the decision to contest the committee chairmanship has been finalized.

'We will file a candidacy for the Public Accounts Committee,' Aangdambe told Ratopati. 'It is a committee traditionally chaired by the main opposition party. We will contest it. Discussions are underway with other opposition parties regarding the remaining committees.'

Aangdambe stated that one of the four candidates—Bharat Khadka, Mohan Acharya, Yogesh Gauchan, or Janakraj Giri—will be selected. 'Four individuals have expressed interest. We will nominate one of them,' Aangdambe said.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has set the nomination registration time from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The venue for filing nominations is the office of the Secretary of the House of Representatives at Singha Durbar. The list of candidates is scheduled to be published at 4:30 PM.

The election for the chairpersons of 10 thematic committees and two joint committees under the House of Representatives is scheduled for Friday. On Chaitra 27, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal read out the names of the members serving on the thematic committees and set the date for the chairmanship election for Friday.
