AI-Powered 'Jesus' Chatbot Sparks Controversy Over Paid Spiritual Guidance

Kathmandu. For centuries, millions of Christians have dreamed of speaking with Jesus Christ, even if only for a moment. Addressing this spiritual longing, a tech company named 'Just Like Me' has launched a new experiment using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The company has released a 'Jesus AI' chatbot, described as a modern mentor rooted in love. The AI model is claimed to be designed for those seeking support and inspiration in their daily lives.

According to company CEO Chris Brid, the AI model was trained using the King James Bible and sermons from various church pastors. He clarified that this chatbot is not a replacement for religion, scripture, or personal faith.

Instead, the company argues that it acts as a compassionate presence to help face real-life challenges with positivity and clarity. However, the use of this technology and the fees associated with it have sparked significant controversy on social media.

Users must pay $1.99 per minute or $49.99 for a 45-minute conversation to speak with this digital Jesus. The appearance of Jesus in this video call is based on actor Jonathan Roumie, who plays the Messiah in the popular television series 'The Chosen'. Although the company clarifies on its website that this is not the real Jesus and possesses no divine power, people are heavily criticizing it for its commercial interests.

Many on social media have described it as a 'scheme to swindle the devout.' One user on X labeled it an evil act, commenting that one can speak to the real God for free at any time. Another user sarcastically noted that even prayers to God are now being hit by inflation.

This blend of religion and technology has created a new debate, where some consider it modern spiritual support, while many others call it business in the name of faith. Previously, a controversial video game titled 'I Am Jesus Christ' was released, which sparked similar controversy.
