Government to Continue 'Sagarmatha Sambaad' Initiative

Kathmandu. The 'Sagarmatha Sambaad', a flagship diplomatic initiative introduced by the CPN (UML)-led government, is being continued by the government under the leadership of Balendra Shah (Balen). 

In the national commitment paper released by the government, it is stated that the program, which was launched with the objective of establishing Nepal's leadership role on the global stage regarding climate change and Himalayan issues, will be advanced through the government's policies and programs.

Point number 14 of the commitment paper explicitly mentions the continuation of the Sagarmatha Sambaad. The CPN (UML)'s election manifesto had highlighted the 'Sagarmatha Sambaad' as a crucial medium for economic diplomacy and expanding international influence. 

What is the Sagarmatha Sambaad?

The Sagarmatha Sambaad is a multilateral global dialogue forum announced by the Government of Nepal in 2019. Under this concept, Himalayan diplomacy will be promoted on the global stage with a focus on climate change.   

Its main objective is to draw global attention to the impact of climate change, particularly in the Himalayan region. It brings together heads of state, heads of government, environmentalists, activists, and representatives of civil society from around the world for discussions.

The first edition was completed last Jestha. The government's commitment paper states that it will be continued in the coming days as well.
