Iran Urges UN Action Against US Naval Blockade

New York. Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has strongly condemned the US military blockade and demanded that the UN take action against the United States. In a letter to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council, Ambassador Iravani described the US move as an "aggressive act that threatens regional and international peace and security."

The Iranian ambassador stated that the US action is a gross violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He labeled the announcement made by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on April 12 as "military terrorism," claiming it is a clear violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter. The letter also mentions that the illegal US blockade violates international maritime law.

Iran has accused the US of interfering with its sovereign rights and obstructing the legitimate maritime trade of third countries. "Iran reserves its 'inherent right' to take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests," Ambassador Iravani noted in the letter. He also warned that the US must bear full responsibility for all consequences arising from this irresponsible act.

Meanwhile, following an order from US President Donald Trump, the US military has deployed at least 15 fighter jets to the Middle East. According to CNN, these aircraft are preparing to participate in a naval blockade of Iranian ports. Trump announced the strict naval blockade on Iran after bilateral talks in Pakistan failed to reach an agreement. Iran has called for immediate international intervention, urging the Security Council to take steps to halt the blockade.
