Shaheed Dashrath Chand Health Science University Prepares to Launch Medical Programs in Sudurpashchim

Dhangadhi. The Shaheed Dashrath Chand Health Science University, located in Geta, Kailali, is preparing to commence medical education from the upcoming academic session. After a long wait, the doors to medical studies are finally opening for students in the Sudurpashchim Province who aspire to become doctors and nurses.

The university has initiated the necessary processes to begin teaching MBBS and various other subjects. The fourth meeting of the University Senate has passed six crucial regulations related to the operation of medical education.

With this decision, the legal path for operating the university has become significantly clearer. According to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sunil Kumar Joshi, internal preparations are progressing rapidly.

The university has already submitted applications to the Medical Education Commission for 50 MBBS seats, 30 BSc Nursing seats, 20 Medical Lab Technology seats, and 20 BSc Optometry seats. If the commission grants approval, classes in these subjects will begin from the next academic session.

The university is focused on both physical infrastructure and human resource management. In the month of Falgun, the university called for applications for 26 professors and 51 assistant professors. The recruitment process for skilled personnel in key departments such as Physiology, Pathology, ENT, General Surgery, and Anesthesiology is reportedly in the final stages.

The Sudurpashchim provincial government is also monitoring this project with keen interest. Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah stated that the decision to upgrade Geta Hospital to 300 beds has been made, and the necessary procedures are underway.

A budget of 2.58 billion rupees has been requested for the upcoming fiscal year to operate the hospital and academic programs.

Hospital services have been operational in Geta since 2080 Kartik 1. A budget of 50 million rupees has already been received for the current fiscal year to cover expenses, including physician salaries. With the budget for scholarship quotas also secured, economically disadvantaged but meritorious students will have the opportunity to study here.

For a long time, the people of Sudurpashchim have been demanding a well-equipped hospital and medical college in their own region.
