Ministry of Agriculture Issues Strict Directives to Local Levels to Curb Pesticide Misuse

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has issued strict directives to local levels across the country to control the uncontrolled use of hazardous and banned pesticides in vegetables and fruits.

Based on recent reports in various media outlets and information from stakeholders, the Ministry has taken this step citing a serious threat to human health and environmental balance.

The Agriculture and Livestock Business Promotion Division of the Ministry has issued a 5-point directive to all local levels through official correspondence.

According to the Ministry, since the Constitution of Nepal assigns the responsibility of agriculture and agricultural production management to local levels, the role of local government will be decisive in this matter, which is directly linked to public health.
