Anti-Graft Body Files Corruption Case Against Dailekh Official and Contractor

Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against the then Chief Administrative Officer of Gurans Rural Municipality in Dailekh, Deepak Kumar Acharya, and construction entrepreneur Subash Karki.

A charge sheet was filed at the Special Court in Kathmandu on Monday, accusing them of embezzling 2,244,500 rupees in revenue from contracts for the extraction of stones, sand, and gravel from the Karnali River and Lohore River areas under the rural municipality.

The CIAA investigation revealed that during the fiscal year 2078/79, Chief Administrative Officer Acharya and R.K. Construction proprietor Karki colluded to sign an agreement without obtaining a bank guarantee and without depositing the mandatory Value Added Tax (VAT). It was confirmed that they caused financial loss to the rural municipality by failing to deposit the contract amount and revenue to the government.

The CIAA has demanded a recovery of 2,244,500 rupees from each defendant, along with fines and imprisonment as per the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059. Spokesperson Suresh Neupane stated that the case has been registered at the Special Court.
