Fuel Crisis Leads to Weekend Holiday in Nepal, Crowds Flock to Basantapur

Kathmandu. With the recent escalation of conflict in the Gulf region, fuel shortages are intensifying across South Asian nations.

The war has disrupted global petroleum supply chains, leading to a significant rise in fuel prices.

Consequently, the Government of Nepal has decided to implement a two-day weekend holiday on Saturday and Sunday as a measure to promote the economical use of petroleum products.

Following the government's decision to include Sunday as a public holiday, crowds have increased in the Basantapur Durbar Square area of Kathmandu. Typically busy on Saturdays, this religious, historical, and tourist site is seeing a heavy influx of visitors today, Sunday as well.
