Rhododendrons in Full Bloom Transform Bhojpur's Mundum Trail into a Spring Paradise

Bhojpur. With the arrival of spring, the forests of the eastern hills have turned vibrant red. The famous Mundum trekking trail in Bhojpur, in particular, has been made even more enchanting by the blooming rhododendrons.

The forests along this trail are currently covered in various species of rhododendrons. The colorful display of red, pink, and white flowers is delighting trekkers. The sight of rhododendrons blending into the lush green forests captivates everyone. The Mundum trail is considered significant not only for its natural beauty but also for its cultural and religious importance. Connected to the original customs, traditions, and the 'Mundum' (religious scripture) of the Kirat community, this region reflects the lifestyle of the Kirat civilization.

Adit Dahal, the Chief Administrative Officer of the rural municipality, stated that while trekking, one can experience the local community's customs, language, attire, and traditional lifestyle up close. He noted that due to these features, the number of tourists visiting the Mundum trail has been increasing recently. Temkemayung Rural Municipality Chairman Saroj Basnet mentioned that since spring is the most suitable time for trekking, the movement of domestic tourists has increased significantly. He added that a local food festival is also being organized in Chakhewa from Chait 30 to 2083 Baishakh 2, targeting tourists.

“The beauty of the Mundum trail has increased with flowers like rhododendrons and others,” said Chairman Basnet, “We have also organized a local food festival targeting tourists.”

During the rhododendron blooming season, nature lovers, photographers, and adventure enthusiasts are drawn to the Mundum trail. Tourist spots along this trail, such as Temkedanda, Salpa Pokhari, Silichung, and Maiyungdanda, have become even more attractive. The Himalayan views from Temkedanda and Maiyungdanda, the religious significance of Salpa Pokhari, and the peaceful environment of Silichung provide a special experience for tourists.

According to local hotel and 'homestay' entrepreneur Bibek Kulung, tourist arrivals have started to increase with the onset of the rhododendron season. Accommodation, food, and guide services are being expanded according to tourist demand. Infrastructure development on the Mundum trail has also been improving recently. Works such as trail marking, construction of resting places, and installation of information boards have provided convenience to tourists. Rural Municipality Vice-Chairperson Ramadevi Rai stated that the local level, federal government, provincial government, and trail-based tourism projects are jointly emphasizing the promotion of this region.

As a unique confluence of natural beauty, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and adventure trekking, the Mundum trail region is becoming an increasingly delightful destination, now blanketed in rhododendrons. Locals say that for any tourist visiting during spring, this journey becomes an unforgettable experience.
