Speaker Aryal and Swiss Ambassador Meulli Discuss Bilateral Ties and Parliamentary Cooperation

Kathmandu. The Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, Dr. Danielle Meulli, paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal. The meeting featured detailed discussions on the historical bilateral relations between the two nations, parliamentary cooperation, Nepal's peace process, and various dimensions of economic assistance.

During the meeting, Speaker Aryal welcomed Ambassador Meulli and noted that Nepal and Switzerland have maintained a deep and excellent relationship since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1956. He emphasized that Nepal places high importance on its relationship with Switzerland, stating that this friendship is based on mutual respect and cooperation. Speaker Aryal highlighted that Switzerland is a global example of the successful practice of participatory democracy and informed her that Nepal is continuously striving to strengthen democratic institutions down to the local level.

On the occasion, the Speaker highly praised the contribution made through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation toward Nepal's socio-economic development. 'We are pleased that Nepal remains on the list of Switzerland's priority countries,' the Speaker said, 'I am confident that the scope of this development cooperation will further expand in the coming days.'

Regarding parliamentary cooperation, Speaker Aryal expressed his belief that the exchange of high-level visits would further strengthen the relationship between the parliaments of the two countries. Recalling the high-level visits to Geneva in 2024, he extended a renewed invitation to the President of the National Council of Switzerland to visit Nepal at an appropriate time. Speaker Aryal committed to continuing the tradition of forming a Nepal-Switzerland Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Federal Parliament in the future.

In the meeting, Ambassador Meulli expressed her commitment to working closely with Nepal on shared challenges such as climate change and socio-economic development. Ambassador Meulli assured that Switzerland would always support the strengthening of Nepal's democracy and the completion of the remaining tasks of the peace process.
