Community-Led Sports Facility and Hall Inaugurated in Myagdi

Myagdi. A community building and sports field for the Himali Youth Club have been constructed by leveling a hillside in Dandagaun, Malika Rural Municipality-6.

The project was completed at a cost of NPR 5,565,555. Club President Tukman Jugjali stated that the community contributed double the amount of government grants through financial support and volunteer labor.

“The site was previously a steep slope,” he said. “We used bulldozers to excavate about 60 meters of land and built retaining walls to level it.” The resulting sports field measures 63 meters in length and 32 meters in width. The complex also includes a two-room building, a stage, and public restrooms.

Previously, the lack of a sports field in Dandagaun made it difficult to conduct sports practices and competitions. The community building now facilitates meetings, training sessions, seminars, and social gatherings. The construction, which began 15 years ago, has finally reached completion.

Funding included NPR 1.7 million from Malika Rural Municipality and NPR 1.2 million from the Gandaki Province government. The Himali Youth Club contributed labor worth NPR 476,000, while the Phulpati Aama Samuha donated NPR 300,000 in cash.

Club Secretary Rohan Jugjali reported that Subash Garbuja, Sabin Pun, Rabin Pun, Diamond Jugjali, Amrit Jugjali, Indra Pun, Chakbahadur Paija, Suraj Jugjali, Chitra Paija, Gambahadur Jugjali, Mandip/Sandip/Raghu Jugjali, and Lakman Pun each contributed NPR 100,000.

The club noted further contributions: Ratna Singh Garbuja (NPR 55,555), Michael Paija, Suraj-Resham Jugjali, Tirthaman/Sajjan Jugjali, Narayan Jugjali, Rubin Jugjali, and Jivan Pun (NPR 50,000 each), Karna Jugjali (NPR 31,000), Pravin Rana (NPR 31,000), Khim Bahadur Jugjali (NPR 17,000), and Ramesh Paija (NPR 5,000).

The sports field was inaugurated by Gandaki Province Assembly member Resham Bahadur Jugjali, and the building by Malika Rural Municipality Vice-Chairperson Laxmi Devi Gharti Pun on Wednesday. During the event, MP Jugjali expressed concern over declining populations and migration despite rapid infrastructure development in rural areas, urging residents to engage in tourism and agriculture-based enterprises.

In addition to the inauguration, the first Kasiram Jugjali Memorial Cup is being held to mark the New Year, featuring volleyball and futsal tournaments. Donors were honored during the opening ceremony.
